The Stevenson-Carson School District Title I, A Parent Involvement District Policy (4130) and Procedures (4130P) and reviewed annually. The complete policy and procedure are available upon request by calling the district office.
Title I is designed to help disadvantaged students meet challenging content and student performance standards in school attendance areas and schools with a large population of children from low-income families and in local institutions for neglected or delinquent children. Part A of Title I provides financial assistance through State educational agencies (SEAs) to local educational agencies (LEAs).
In Stevenson-Carson School District, Carson Elementary and Stevenson Elementary are both school wide Title I schools. A school wide building plan at each school describes reform strategies to be implemented with an emphasis on improving achievement of low achieving students. Teachers are involved in using assessment to improve student performance and instructional programs.
The program's goal is to improve teaching and learning to enable participants to meet the State performance standards that all students are expected to master. In order to accomplish this goal, the program must be based on effective means for improving achievement of the identified students; use effective instructional strategies, provide accelerated, high quality curriculum, coordinate and support the regular education program, provide instruction via highly qualified and trained professional staff and implement strategies to increase parental involvement.
The Learning Assistance Program (LAP) is a state-funded program to serve students with the greatest deficits in academic basic sills, as identified by state assessments. Basic skills include reading, writing, math and readiness skills.
LAP services are provided in Stevenson Elementary. Carson Elementary, Wind River Middle School and Stevenson High School services may include extended learning time, professional development, consultant teachers, tutoring and parent outreach.
All services provided in Title I and Learning Assistance Programs are supplemental to the instruction of the classroom teacher in a particular subject area. Services at each inpidual building are based on evidence of student performance and are determined by the school's Title I/LAP building team.
