About Us
The Stevenson-Carson School District is a K-12 district located in the Columbia River Gorge. A National Scenic Area, the Columbia River Gorge offers breathtaking views of tree covered mountains and streams dropping to the massive Columbia River below. While located in a rural area, serving the towns of Stevenson, North Bonneville, Carson, Stabler and Home Valley, the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan area is just 40 miles west of the District.
District Facilities
The district serves approximately 900 students, K-12. Students attend Stevenson Elementary (K-2), Carson Elementary (3-6), Wind River Middle School (7-8), and Stevenson High School (9-12). Building size and class size are small, providing an exceptional opportunity for a personalized educational program for each student. The facilities are kept in excellent condition and reflect the communities’ commitment to provide quality schools.
District Focus
The district's motto is "Children First." While not a unique motto, the commitment and sincerity of the staff is genuine. Stevenson-Carson School District's highest priorities are instructional with a clear focus to improve student reading performance. The commitment to consistent curriculum review and use of proven result-driven programs is a cornerstone of the commitment to place students first. The district has established a reputation regionally and statewide as "progressive" and "on the cutting edge."
Student Performance
Student performance has improved over the last decade with outstanding results achieved in reading. Elementary reading scores at the Carson Elementary and Stevenson Elementary have been some of the best in the region. The district’s commitment to evaluate student growth is reflected in the use of MAP (Measures of Academic Performance) Levels Test. Students are tested grades 2-10 in the fall and spring of each year. As a result, student achievement can be documented clearly and programs can be adjusted to achieve excellence for all students.
Personalized Program
The Stevenson-Carson School District provides students a very personalized educational experience. With small class sizes, specialized staff, and a clear instructional focus, students realize the maximum opportunity to succeed. In addition to an excellent instructional program, students choose from a complement of extra-curricular offerings. Stevenson High School offers football, soccer, volleyball, wrestling, basketball, tennis, baseball, softball, track, cheerleading, youth and government, knowledge bowl, yearbook, National Honor Society, pep band, and drama productions. Wind River Middle School students have choices of football, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, track, and yearbook. With the extensive choices available, all students have the opportunity to participate.
